Jack-Aude Pichette (they/iel (m)) founded CCBI after nearly 25 years of experience in non-profit finance and accounting management. Combining over 35 years of social justice organizing in Canada and the U.S., their work implements a diversity of strategies from direct action and education to mutual aid and political-economic strategy. This blend of professional and community experience shaped the foundation of CCBI’s social and solidarity economic model.
Facing systemic barriers to essentials like secure employment and accessible tax services as a trans individual and entrepreneur, they founded CCBI to build an abundance of collective resources and resilience. Today, they serve on CCBI’s board of directors as volunteer General Coordinator, provide direct professional services to clients, and lead the organization’s strategic and commercial development grounded in intersections of economic equity, social justice and self determination.
Jack is also the founder of Trans-Swim, Quebec’s first public swimming schedule reserved exclusively for trans, gender-diverse, and non-conforming community members.
I’m a neurodivergent transmasculine non-binary person with a deep love for numbers, animals and knowledge of all kinds. My educational background revolves more around science (especially biology) and arts (audio and musical production), but after struggling and seeing many members of my community struggle financially for many years, I decided to go back to school and learn more about financial management. The idea that I had in mind was to eventually start a financial services company at low cost for the queer community. I thought it would take years for something like this to happen, but then Jack introduced me to the CCBI project, and it felt like the universe finally heard me somehow.
I completed my ACS in May 2024, and I’m planning on taking managerial accounting and financial analysis classes in university to deepen my knowledge around budgeting and financial statement analysis. The goal behind this plan is to help entrepreneurs and businesses in the community to understand and manage their finances better. I am incredibly grateful to be a part of this initiative and motivated more than ever to keep pushing myself in my studies. I am ready to make a difference in my community, one tax return at a time.
Éloi (il/they) co-founded the organization PLURI (2016-2022), which aimed to reduce sexual and oppressive harassment in nightlife, as well as improve its overall accessibility. They worked with nightlife institutions of all types to develop sexual violence policies and put systems in place that would make them actually functional and efficient. This work required them to hold a desire to develop equitable HR practices, learn about non-profit management and develop their business skills all at once. While none of that work was done perfectly, they learned a lot from the tension between these 3 responsibilities.
They graduated from a Bachelors in Social Work from UQÀM in 2020 and have worked in established organizations in the fields of LGBTQIA2S+ healthcare, harm reduction and concurrent disorders (mental health and addiction), in which they developed project management, communications and intervention skills. They also occasionally offer workshops on the integration of trans people in the workplace and currently work in the field of healthcare communications. (*note pour la traduction: il travaille en transfert de connaissances dans le milieu de la santé.)
They are grateful for the opportunity to mobilize these experiences to bring some support to the structuring of an emerging initiative that provides underserved communities with financial education, carrying on the work that their grandmother has done for decades before them.
